Green Table to Be Featured at Farmers Market
A collaboration between the Village of Glenview and the Glenview Park District and a few interested citizens has resulted in the creation of a “Green Table”, a new environmental community resource at the Glenview Farmers’ Market which runs every Saturday from June 27 through October 10 at Wagner Farm. The goal of the Green Table is to build community, promote conversation, and provide education about sustainable living. Situated at the Farmers’ Market entrance, the table will host a different topic and expert each week. The experts will be in attendance from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. each Saturday. Access to them is free and no sales promotions or business transactions are permitted.

Glenview Park District Selected as Finalist for 2009 Gold Medal Award
The Glenview Park District has been selected as one of four finalists in its population class for the National Recreation and Park Association's 2009 National Golf Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management. Other finalists Glenview will compete against in its class (Class III, population 50,001-100,000) are the Arlington Heights Park District, Illinois, Hoffman Estates Park District, Illinois and Temple Parks & Leisure Services, Texas.
The Gold Medal Award honors communities through the United States that demonstrate excellence in long-range planning, resource management, volunteerism, environmental stewardship, program development, professional development, and agency recognition. Each agency is judged on its ability to address the needs of those it serves through the collective energies of citizens, staff and elected officials.
Park districts from around the country submitted written applications earlier this year. Finalists are required to submit a 12-minute video by July for the second and final round of judging.
A panel of five parks and recreation professionals reviews and judges all application materials. Judges are chosen for their considerable experience and knowledge in parks and recreation on both local and national levels.
The Golf Medal Award program is operate by the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration (AAPRA) in partnership with the National recreation and Park Association (NRPA). The Gold Medal Award Program is sponsored by Musco Lighting LLC.
This year's finalists will compete for Grand Award honors this summer, and all winners will be announced live during NRPA's Annual Congress and Exposition in Salt Lake City, Utah, October 13-16, 2009.
